What about rights?
Developers own all the rights of the works they submit to the contest. HS will get no IP rights for the works participating.
Three winners will be published as an article if HS.fi -site, if the winners grant us permission. The expected traffic for one application is about 20 000 users.
Also, other works are presented in this blog or in HS.fi. We link to your work or use an Iframe, according to your wishes.
Who decides the winners?
Jury appointed by Helsingin Sanomat. We will announce the members later.
Why this contest?
We want to encourage data journalism and build formats that can be sold and asked for. The best idea so far is a 560×400 pixel Iframe. We are hoping, that this contest will open up possibilities for developers to work with Helsingin Sanomat.
You can also use these applications in blogs and in other media outlets. We believe that this contest is useful in general.
The most important rule is: the application must be 560 pixels wide and 400 pixels high. It must work in Iframe.
The application must display information in an interesting way. Or it must collect data from the users and display it in an interesting way. The application must not cause harm or disturbance to the user, and it must not contain any viruses.
Anyone can participate – exept members of the jury, the people directly involved in organizing this competition and their close relatives. Submissions outside Finland are warmly welcome.
We might change or specify these rules as we get input from the developer community.
